Summer Institute for Authentic Learning and Leadership

It's time to get outside with your math standards. By using a backward design process, this session will show you how you can get your class to see math in the real world, even if that is just outside of your building. Learn about how to connect your standards to gardening and outdoor education, and get some time to think through what ideas you have!

This session qualifies for Gifted PD hours.

With scripted math curriculums and complicated standards, it can be hard to find ways to naturally integrate opportunities for critical thinking...the kind of math and sorts of problems that you truly encounter in the real world. In this session, you will solve a variety of problems and complete various exercises that are low prep, high reward, and don't take away significant time from your standards, but yield a high reward regarding student engagement and exposure to high ceiling activities.
